Meet the Muses

 

Gail Forsyth   Gail Forsyth

Gail was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland and moved to the United States in 1990 after graduating from Edinburgh University. She attended graduate school at Appalachian State University and currently works as a speech and language pathologist for a multitude of small mouths. Gail is also a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist with a private practice in Asheville, NC. Gail started singing with women's vocal groups in 1998, and later found her musical niche with the Muses. Gail brings to the group not only her lovely voice, but also her passion for Celtic song.

 

Judy Rhodes   Judy Rhodes

Judy comes from a family tradition that has produced professional musicians in several genres. Her father, Woody Rhodes, was a session guitarist in Nashville, Tennessee and performed around the world with many famous musicians. Judy obtained a degree in Piano Performance from Converse College and has pursued graduate studies in Performance and Piano Pedagogy. She is presently pursuing a Master's degree in Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University. Judy's piano students have won recognition at USC's Southeastern Piano Festival, Piano Clinics at Converse, FSU Piano Clinic, and the Asheville Piano Teachers' Forum Piano Competition. Judy is currently the children's choir director at Grace Episcopal Church in Asheville, North Carolina. She is also a fluid songwriter. In April 2000, Judy performed at the Dalai Lama's World Festival of Sacred Music in Bangalore, India, with Count Clovis. Judy observes that music is a "sacred, powerful gift that can open our eyes to new things. It can silence the violent and stir up the soul to action. Music has the ability to help us see ourselves in each other... no matter what culture we hail from."

 

Natalie Grinnell   Natalie Grinnell

A true songbird, Natalie is originally from Durham, North Carolina by way of Omaha, Nebraska. A veteran of musical theater, she now brings drama to the Muses with her powerful voice and vibrant on-stage presence. When she's not blowing out the back wall of various performance venues, Natalie spends her time raising her baby son Julian or teaching Nia movement classes in Asheville, North Carolina.
